Community engagement

The University of Nottingham is committed to active engagement with its local communities, schools and colleges and the public in general. This is done in a variety of ways that are of value and benefit to the community and University alike.

Community Engagement Strategy

A Community Engagement Strategy was developed in 2009 which outlines the key strategic themes for community engagement. These are:

  • opening up our physical environment and resources
  • sharing and exchanging knowledge and skills
  • contributing to key civic agendas
  • being good neighbours
  • promoting and supporting education

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Access and Community Relations, Professor Karen Cox, has responsibility for developing and supporting the implementation of this strategy.

Supporting community engagement

There are a number of units and individuals who are involved in supporting community engagement. These include:

In addition, many schools, faculties, departments and individual members of staff and students are engaged with the local community in a wide range of activities, from volunteering to school governor roles.

Visit the University in the Community website for more details of how the University and community work in partnership.
