Horizon Digital Economy Research Hub

The Horizon Digital Economy Hub is a £35 million cross-disciplinary research centre which investigates the technical developments needed if electronic information is to be controlled, managed and harnessed — for example, to develop new products and services — for societal benefit

The Hub is funded by Research Councils UK, The University of Nottingham and over 35 industrial partners. It brings together University of Nottingham researchers and incorporates the universities of:

  • Cambridge
  • Reading
  • Exeter
  • and Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design

In addition, it has input from key external partners including:  the BBC, Alton Towers, BT, Experian, Jaguar, Oracle and Network Rail.

Researchers at the Hub come from a broad range of backgrounds and aim to:

  • build-in an understanding of people and society in our technology developments from the onset
  • ensure we all benefit from these advances

Their research focuses on a number of research themes and challenges across a number of sectors, including: transport, creative industries and energy

Currently there are two themes: creative visiting and transportation, which specifically examine how the digital footprints we leave behind could be harnessed to transform the way those sectors operate.

The work of Horizon Digital Economy Research Hub also contributes to the Operations in a Digital World Priority Group.

This flagship collaboration brings together the research of more than 200 academics.

This strategic alliance aims to establish a co-ordinated research grouping and a joint Graduate School.

A partnership linking the UK’s eight leading academic centres in primary care research.
