A paper resulting from the fruitful collaboration between Professor Alan Perkins of the Division of Radiological and Imaging Sciences, The University of Nottingham, and the Department of Biomedical Imaging at the University of Malaya has been recognised at the European Congress of Radiology.
Ms. Chai-Hong Yeong's paper, “A Novel Approach of Gastrointestinal Transit Investigation Using SPECT and MR Image Fusion" was awarded a Certificate of Merit at the ECR 2012, which was held in Vienna in March. (More information available here.)
Ms Yeong is a joint student of the University of Malaya and Medical Physics within the Division of Radiological and Imaging Sciences at Nottingham. Her paper aims to demonstrate the feasibility of SPECT and MR image fusion (See video) for improving diagnosis of the regional abnormalities in whole gut transit. It was found that the image fusion with sequential gamma images improved the assessment of segmental gut transit by facilitating accurate delination of tracer anatomically.
