Current Research

MariaTeresa Punzi earned her PhD in Economics at Boston College (U.S.) in 2007. Her specialization fields concern Housing Market, DSGE Models, Macro-Financial Linkages, Monetary and Macro-Prudential Policy, Expectation-Driven Cycles and Global Imbalances.

Her current main study focuses on the potential gains of monetary and macro-prudential policies that lean against news-driven boom-bust cycles in housing prices and credit generated by expectations of future macroeconomic developments. Her analysis finds that counter-cyclical Loan-to-Value rules that respond to credit growth are more effective in maintaining a stable provision of financial intermediation than interest-rate rules that respond to financial variables.

Maria Teresa Punzi has past teaching experiences as a Professor at Boston College and at the University of Alicante in Spain. Beyond that, she visited several European Central Banks, such us Bank of Spain, Bank of Portugal and Bank of Finland.

Furthermore, she gave speeches about Macro-Prudential Policy at the BIS-BOK join conference in Seoul and at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.
