The Faculty of Engineering has a strong industrial involvement in all of the undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes and has close relationships with many companies. There are many opportunities for a company to become involved with the Departments within the Faculty at teaching level in order to attract potential students and generally raise their profile within our student community. The most popular are shown below.
Advertising of Graduate opportunities to engineering students
Employers with graduate, internship or summer placement vacancies can advertise their vacancies on the Careers and Employability Service www site. This is completely free of charge. Further details are available at:- www.nottingham.ac.uk/careers/business. wishing to recruit only from engineering disciplines should contact the Faculty directly. Recruiters wanting to advertise graduate opportunities/placements/work experience opportunities to non-engineering students contact the Careers and Employability Service and complete the on-line vacancy advertising form. This is completely free of charge.
Recruitment Presentations - Specific recruitment presentations targeting engineering students can be arranged via Rachel.Ramsden@nottingham.ac.uk
We recommend that career presentations to non-engineering students are arranged via the Careers and Employability Service. The Careers and Employability Service can also advise you on a wide range of activities, which will enable your organization to engage directly with students and graduates of the University.

Vacation and industrial placement positions can be advertised to specific year and course groups. Twelve month industrial placements are not compulsory but we do encourage students to take up relevant placements, usually after their second year but occasionally after the third year of an MEng programme. If you require advice about how to set up a placement, please contact either Rachel.Ramsden@nottingham.ac.uk in the Careers and Employability - Faculty of Engineering team or the Year In Industry http://www.yini.org.uk/ which is part of the EDT and is a registered education charity that helps talented young people achieve their full potential through careers in engineering, science and technology and is located on University Park Campus.
The Department of Civil Engineering Engineering Advisor Scheme is used as a link between undergraduates and industry. Advisors are asked to provide assistance with both individual/group projects, site visits, assessments and industrial presentations. Please contact Dr David Hargreaves for further information.
A wide range of projects exist in all our courses, including group based projects and individual technical projects, with areas ranging through the whole spectrum of engineering disciplines. Most Undergraduate degree projects start in September with MSc projects starting in June. Many projects have industrial input and ideas are welcome a few months before the start of the project work.
Many visits to industry currently take place and are often geared towards part of the degree course, giving an insight into the reality of the theory taught.
We have a wide range of industrialists who advise and comment on course developments, skill requirements and organization. Industry leaders are welcome to propose future members for our Departmental Industrial Advisory Boards.
The University of Nottingham’s Development Office offers a range of advice and support on tax-effective giving when making donations to support scholarships, bursaries and prizes. They can also offer advice on publicity and naming opportunities. For example the Faculty of Engineering currently has a range of named company prizes with awards being made at the company or at the Annual Departmental Prize Day. Typical prizes range up to £500 annually and this can be arranged annually or by a larger, one-off donation. The Faculty also actively promotes Industrial Scholarship programmes for engineering students eg The BP Scholarship Programme.
Department of Civil Engineering Undergraduate Sponsorship – this can take place from year 2 onwards after a student has spent a period of time in industry. Further details of the Scheme are available from rachel.ramsden@nottingham.ac.uk
Sponsorship of key textbooks, specific equipment for teaching laboratories, lecture rooms or whole buildings can be arranged with suitable branding.
Preferred Status - Several companies have agreed that Departments or the whole Faculty can include in advertising literature/web etc that the degree programme is of ‘Preferred Status’ and the company has specifically targeted graduates and students as one of a small group of Universities.
