Festival Bursary available

Postgraduate research students,
do you want inspiration on how to take public engagement with your research to a new level?

Apply for a funded place at Europe’s largest annual public science event and see how celebrated scientists and thinkers do it at the British Science Festival “Energising Minds”, in Aberdeen 4 - 9 September 2012.

With guests such as Bill Bryson, Susan Greenfield, Brian Cox and John Krebs, the festival has a host of workshops, exhibitions, interactive comedy, street theatre, and discussion designed to celebrate the place of science, engineering and technology in our everyday lives.

View or download the Festival programme.

Not a scientist? There is plenty to learn about how the public engage with and learn about complex subjects, as well as experiencing how such large-scale public events are run.

To win a Graduate School-funded place at this week-long event, tell us what you want to learn and experience, beyond science, by attending the festival.

The prize includes:

  •  return travel from Nottingham to Aberdeen
  •  accommodation and meals for the week
  •  VIP entry to some headline events and free entry to some pay-for events

How to apply

  1. Create a 2-3 minute video telling us:
    • what you aim to learn by attending the festival
    • your current plans for public engagement with your research
    • your ideas on how you will communicate your insight and tips on public engagement to the Graduate School, either whist you are at or upon your return from the Festival
