Information about the Institute
Our mission is to be a centre of excellence in the development of enterprise and entrepreneurial skills, innovation and understanding the commercialisation of research. Globally, it is recognised that creativity, innovation, risk, knowledge transfer and technology transfer are key to competitiveness. UNIEI provides the Business School and the University with the platform to build on these issues.
Based in the prestigious Nottingham University Business School, UNIEI was launched in June 2000 with support from the DTI and East Midlands Development Agency. UNIEI delivers research and teaching programmes on the state-of-the-art Jubilee Campus. Business engagement opportunities are also available through the Ingenuity Programme from the University of Nottingham Innovation Park.
Encouraging student innovation and enterprise
Entrepreneurial students are nurtured at Nottingham. UNIEI is one of the leading centres in Europe for the development of enterprise skills in the next generation of entrepreneurs. It works with a high profile network of senior academics and researchers from around the world.
The Institute offers practical business services through its EnterpriseLab, which provides entrepreneurial students with business advice and mentoring, help with planning, and surgeries on finance, marketing, intellectual property, taxation, and funding. It also offers free shared office space and allows students to use the EnterpriseLab for their business.
The University of Nottingham was the first ever recipient of the Times Higher Entrepreneurial University of the Year Award in 2008. The judges praised the ‘breadth and depth’ of Nottingham’s entrepreneurial activity and said the University was ‘committed to nurturing the most enterprising and globally-minded graduates in British higher education’.
