Moment Connection Designer
Moment Connection Designer is a program that checks the moment and shear capacity of steel endplates and splice bolted connections. The program can be used as a standalone system where connecting members, forces and endplate details can be defined and capacity results obtained. The program can also be used as part of the QSE Structural Office where connecting members with their respective forces are carried through to the program (using Dynamic Data Exchange) and used to set-up the required connection. The types of the connections and the stiffening options that can be checked using this program are outlined in the Section Scope of The Program
The program calculates, simultaneously, the positive and negative moment capacities of connections. The design philosophy used is that adopted by the BCSA/SCI publication 207/95, "Green Book", which is based on EC3 Annex J and BS5950.
The design of endplate moment connection is based on EC3 and BS5950 and as specified in following publication:
BCSA/SCI, 1995, "Joints in Steel Construction- Moment Connections", Publication 207/95. ISBN 1 85942 018 4. THE GREEN BOOK.Type some text.
This program deals the design of steel endplate moment connections. It covers the following types:
flush endplate beam-to-column connections
extended endplate beam-to-column connections
haunched (flush or extended) endplate beam-to-column connections
beam splice with haunch option for equal beams
apex (beam splice with haunches) and eaves (single sided connection with haunch)
column splice
unstiffened column base
In designing the above types of connection the following stiffeners can used:
beam side web tension stiffeners (within beam or haunch depth)
column web horizontal compression stiffeners (at beam or haunch bottom flange level)
column web horizontal tension stiffeners
column web "N" type stiffeners
column web "K" type stiffeners
column web Morris stiffeners
column supplementary web plate stiffeners
Top or bottom extension vertical stiffeners
