VAN GIESON

1. Bring sections to water.

2. Celestine blue 3 mins.

3. Wash in water.

4. Alum haematoxylin 3 mins.

5. Wash in water, blue.

6. Differentiate in 1% acid alcohol.

7. Wash in water, blue.

8. Stain in Van Gieson's solution 5 mins.

9. Dehydrate, clear . Mount sections in DPX


RESULTS

Collagen - red

Nuclei - blue-black

Background - yellow

Solutions

Van Gieson (Unna's variant)

--Acid fuchsin 0.25g

--Nitric acid 0.5ml

--Glycerin 10.0ml

--Picric acid to saturation

--Distilled water 90ml
