The University has now submitted its application to the government's Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). The TEF has been introduced to recognise and reward excellent teaching. Universities will be allocated one of three awards within the TEF: Bronze, Silver or Gold.
Universities will be rated using some basic statistics, including National Student Survey (NSS) scores, drop-out rates and employment data. Each university is assigned benchmarks based on the makeup of its student population, ensuring that all universities need to strive for very high standards. We also provided a written submission of evidence to help the government make its decision.
Our application will be judged by academic assessors across the sector as well as by student representatives. The first results are expected in May.
Work is already underway across the country to extend TEF to individual academic disciplines as well as universities as a whole, and pilots at subject level are planned for 2017/18. At the moment, only institutions as a whole will receive an award.
