On the anniversary of D.H. Lawrence’s birth Andrew Harrison, Director of the D.H. Lawrence Research Centre, University of Nottingham will deliver the Society’s annual Birthday Lecture. The correspondence between D. H. Lawrence and the illustrator, artist and poet Ernest Collings gave rise to several of Lawrence’s most striking pronouncements on his art and beliefs, yet the friendship between the two men, and the nature of their interactions, has sometimes been marginalised in accounts of Lawrence’s early development as a writer. This lecture will provide an insight into their relationship, showing rarely-seen illustrations and drawings by Collings, and making reference to archival materials in the Lawrence Collections in Manuscripts and Special Collections at The University of Nottingham.
The event is hosted by the D.H. Lawrence Society.
