Mahima Udani - MSc Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Management

From dreams to degrees: An unforgettable year at Nottingham University Business School.

Mahima left Mumbai in September 2022 to study for an MSc in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Management at the Nottingham University Business School. She secured a scholarship from The JN Tata Endowment Fund, founded by Jamsetji Nusserwanjee Tata. While studying at Nottingham, she also won two university awards; the Dean's Scholarship and the Postgraduate Excellence Award.

Mahima said: “I was attracted to Nottingham as it is a Russell Group university, had a curriculum that satisfied my enthusiasm for entrepreneurship, and has beautiful campuses.”

Once Mahima arrived on campus, her professors, personal tutors, and mentors supported her transition into further study. She became very involved in volunteering, societies, networking events, internships, and part-time work.

Mahima added: “Embracing various activities and exploring outside of study - including my involvement with Enactus Nottingham - was key to helping me settle. I took the opportunity to become a student ambassador which enabled me to meet new people and build connections.”

She held the role of Social Media Head at the Empower Project under Enactus Nottingham and through one of their initiatives, helped raise awareness about combating period poverty.

With help from the university’s careers and employability service, Mahima successfully acquired two internships which further enhanced her learning experience. The first internship was as a Marketing Coordinator at Innovate, UK's Knowledge Transfer Partnership. Here, Mahima focused on offering post-study graduate schemes. She conducted market research, spearheaded impactful social media campaigns, and introduced a brand ambassador role, increasing student awareness.

The second internship was as a Fundraising Coordinator at the charity, Hope, using comprehensive market analysis to generate insightful reports. The experience contributed to fundraising, donor engagement, and community outreach. Then towards the end of her studies, Mahima was offered the role of Marketing and Communication Officer for the Ingenuity Programme.

Following graduating in December 2023 Mahima reflected:

Each opportunity was a steppingstone towards becoming a more diverse professional.  I would say to students - involve yourself in everything. From academics to volunteer work, societies to internships, embrace the multifaceted nature of university life. Learn the art of multitasking and give your best to every opportunity that comes your way. The University of Nottingham has a treasure trove of experiences waiting for you – seize them all!
