An overview of  Barclays Business

Neil Riley is Barclays’ Head of Japan Desk, based in London and covering Japan-parented corporate clients across EMEA.  He also runs the International Corporates Central Servicing team.

Neil will talk about his role as Head of Japan Desk and present an overview of Barclays Business.  The discussion will touch upon Barclays shared growth agenda and examine how environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors have influenced Barclays corporate behaviour.   Neil’s talk  will also cover aspects of his Nottingham MBA journey.

Biography

Financial Minds

Neil began his financial career in 1998, working in the Japanese Corporate Department at the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi Ltd, London Branch.  In 2000 he moved to the Deutsche Bank London Japan Desk, and in 2003 was transferred to Deutsche Bank Tokyo Branch, taking a role as Corporate Credit Analyst. Prior to joining Barclays in December 2012, Neil took a full-time MBA at the University of Nottingham, graduating with Distinction.  

He serves as a Board Member of the Japan Chamber of Commerce & Industry in the UK, acting as Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Committee. However, Neil's career experience is not limited to Japanese Corporate Banking.  He also has experience in setting up a successful travel agency and property fund in Echigo Yuzawa, Niigata Prefecture, Japan; also working in Premier Banking with HSBC in Tokyo and Moscow.

Neil is fluent in Japanese; his undergraduate degree in Politics & Japanese included one year of study at the University of Fukuoka.
