Join us at this exclusive 'Nottingham in the City' professional networking event for alumni and business contacts, hosted by Nottingham University Business School (Malaysia).

This event will include conversations with thought leaders and an opportunity to network with other alumni, business professionals and staff from the Business School.

The University of Nottingham has hosted similar events in London at company venues including Standard and Poor's, Berenberg Bank and PwC, and in 2018, successfully hosted the first 'Nottingham in the City' events outside the UK - read about the 2018 events in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore

'Conversations' series

As part of this year's Nottingham in the City reception, we are delighted to welcome Robert Boxwell, a director of Opera Advisors, an international management and professional development consultancy, who will speak on salient issues regarding the US-China Trade War and ways of strategising amid possible changes in the global economic environment.

Speaker profile

Robert J Boxwell Jr is a director of Opera Advisors, an international management and professional development consultancy. Bob has over 30 years of hands-on business and professional development experience. Before Opera, he spent 11 years as founder and managing director of San Francisco Coffee (Coffee Partners Ltd), running 75 outlets in Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong, and Japan, and 10 years as managing partner of Churchill & Company, the international management consultancy specialising in benchmarking and professional development. He began his career with Deloitte Haskins + Sells in Hartford, was a CPA with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co (now KPMG) in San Francisco and New York, and worked briefly in investment banking with Donaldson Lufkin and Jenrette Securities Corporation in New York. He has lived in Asia since 1996.

Bob has developed and taught professional development seminars throughout the US, Asia, and Europe to thousands of managers from over 25 countries. He has also taught at the Master level at San Francisco’s Golden Gate University, Monash University, the University of Nottingham, and University of Malaya. He is a published case writer for Harvard Business School, PETRONAS, University of Malaya, Securities Commission Malaysia, and Ratings Agency Malaysia and the author of Benchmarking for Competitive Advantage, (McGraw-Hill, New York). His op-eds on securities fraud, corruption, and trade have been published in Financial Times, Reuters, South China Morning Post, and Bloomberg. He is currently writing two books: one about the 10-year insider trading crackdown in the US and another about the history of US-China trade. Bob holds a Bachelor of Science degree (summa cum laude) in Accounting from the University of Hartford and an MBA degree from Harvard Business School.
