About Us

The Centre for Advanced Studies was established in 2009/10. The Director of CAS is a senior research leader drawn from the University’s Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences. The Executive committee is composed of the CAS Director, the Research Development Manager, and the Deans of Arts, Social Sciences and the Graduate School. The Director is supported by centre staff including an Administrator, Research and Business Development Officers and Funding Officers.

Each year the academic team includes:

• Post-doctoral bursary holders – a team of excellent young researchers who have recently completed their doctoral studies
• Visiting Fellows – senior figures from academia and industry resident at Nottingham to contribute to and challenge the research environment in key thematic areas
• Internal fellows  – colleagues from within the University leading major research programmes and/or strategic development initiatives

CAS is supported by an Academic Advisory Group and a Board.

Priority Group Status: CAS features within the University of Nottingham's Research and Knowledge Transfer Committee programme of research priority groupings. 

CAS plays an important role in supporting two other University of Nottingham research priority groups:

• Integrating Global Society
• Science, Technology and Society
