The team offers support with research development and the submission of funding applications. We can offer assistance from the beginning, when your research is simply an idea, through to final application. Specific areas of support include:
The Research and Business Development Officers (RBDOs) support the development of research applications, as well as collaborations within and beyond academia. It is helpful to involve this team as soon as possible in the development of your idea for research. The RBDOs mainly work within a Faculty, although they may work across Faculties to facilitate interdisciplinary research or to advise on specific Research Council opportunities, for example, if you are interested in applying to the AHRC contact Sue or Lisa, and for the ESRC, either Rosamund or Paula. Arts Faculty: Sue Hopcroft and Lisa McCabe Social Sciences Faculty: Rosamund Aubrey and Paula Gurteen
The Research Funding Office provides costings advice and guidance in submitting research grant applications, including all queries relating to pFACT and electronic submission. Research Funding Officer: Laura Pearson
The Research Development and Funding Office teams work closely together and may both be involved in meeting with you to develop your ideas.
The University’s Research Committee has established a mentoring scheme to support the success of research applications across the University. In the six months prior to September 2009 the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences trialled a mentoring scheme in Modern Languages and Politics. The scheme has now been rolled out to all Schools in the two Faculties. For details of how the scheme is being run in your School please refer to your Research Director or Head of School. If your School is not able to assist you with finding the most appropriate mentor for your application, we have formed a peer review college of academics across the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences and with a range of expertise. We can arrange for an appropriate member of this college to act as a mentor for your proposal, offering advice and specific expertise. If you are interested in this scheme please contact Allison Pearson.
CAS offers a broad range of support for Early Career Researchers. To this end we offer one-to-one support to help individuals identify research opportunities and offer support as required through to the submission of a research application.
