Title: A modified ultimatum game to study in\out group bias

We aim to investigate if and how leaders may exploit group divisions for self-gain. A “leader” and two “followers” play a one-shot ultimatum game. Leader proposes an exhaustive division of the surplus between the three participants, and each follower votes to accept or reject it. Proposal is implemented if at least one follower accepts; everyone earns zero otherwise. This simple majority rule incentivizes the exclusion of one of the followers, but it does not suggest whom to exclude. Would leaders make strategic use of in\out group divisions and extract more of the surplus? We plan to use both natural and artificially generated group divisions to investigate.

The seminar will start at 1.10pm in A45 Sir Clive Granger (lunch provided).  Please note, the late start is to allow everyone a quick break after the PhD Masterclass organised by Sarah Nolan.
