Current Research

Dr Mick Cooper is currently researching: Analysis of combustion products, especially PAHs, by conventional organic analytical techniques, and by stable isotopic analysis, in order to ascertain their origins. The production of biofuels. The analysis of novel organic, biochemical, organometallic and metalloorganic compounds by mass spectrometry.

Past Research

The remediation and rehabilitation of contaminated land, especially using the techniques of phytoremediation and soils washing. The components of oils and coals. The source apportionment of PAH in the environment by carbon stable isotope analysis. Analysis of small organic products from the degradation of Lignin. Characterisation of novel ionic liquids.

Future Research

Use of environmental proxies, such as lake sediments, as a means of understanding past climate changes. The statistical analysis of time series data derived from environmental systems, for the understanding of climate change.

The use of novel mass spectrometric techniques in the analysis of organic, biochemical, organometallic and metalloorganic compounds.
