Current Research

My current research is on generative AI and its possible implications for the media industry. I'm interested in exploring its impact on media practices, journalistic cultures, media policy and regulation. To this end, I am currently working on a book on AI and Journalism in Africa to be published by Routledge.

Broadly, however, my research has generally focused on the impact of digital technologies on journalistic and organizational media practices; how they are disrupting and reconfiguring everyday routines in news production, and consumption habits by user communities. I am also interested in the impact of digital media technologies on processes of governance and political accountability in the developing world, more specifically in Africa. My previous work has explored aspects of Africa's popular culture, particularly narrative fiction, which I have examined as an important site and means through which to understand questions of power and its performance in the post-colony.
