Research Assessment Exercise 2008

In the 2008 RAE, 90 per cent of the Department's research was judged to be of a quality that is recognised internationally, with 55 per cent of it as international excellence or better. This result places Nottingham in the top ten Classics departments outside of London, Cambridge and Oxford.

What is the RAE?

The RAE is an official, government-sponsored rating of research across all subjects in all UK universities, which is conducted every 6 years.  With 67 different panels of academics, the RAE grades research performance in each subject area by reading the 4 best publications of each member of staff over the previous 6 years, and also by assessing the quality of the research environment at the university and the achievements of the staff members.
