Dr Ender Ozcan from ASAP has just secured funding under the Royal Society-Newton International Exchanges (Newton Fund) Scheme. This will support a two-year long research project entitled "Automated Intelligent Decision Support Using Hyper-Heuristics" in collaboration with Prof Nelishia Pillay and a PhD student from the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science at University of KwaZulu-Natal.
The project will study adaptive, effective, generic, reusable and low-cost hyper-heuristic algorithms automating the heuristic design process for intelligent decision support, focusing on vehicle routing, packing and timetabling domains.
