Brighten up — be safe when cycling!

The University of Nottingham is launching its annual ‘Brighten Up’ campaign to encourage staff and students to be safe and be seen when cycling in the autumn and winter months.

From Monday 23 October – Friday 27 October 2017 we’ll be holding a series of events across our UK campuses. The events will feature RideWise instructors who will be able to give advice on lighting, hi visibility clothing and cycling in the damp and dark.

Staff and students attending the events will also be able to collect hi visibility equipment and free lights provided by the University and Nottinghamshire Police.

Here are the details of the events. There’s no need to book – just turn up on the day!

  • Monday 23 October, 12:00-2:00pm: Sutton Bonington, The Barn
  • Tuesday 24 October, 12:00-2:00pm: Kings Meadow Campus Restaurant
  • Tuesday 24 October, 12:00-2:00pm: QMC Medical School Foyer
  • Wednesday 25 October, 12:00-2:00pm: Derby Medical School
  • Wednesday 25 October, 12:00-2:00pm: Jubilee Campus, Exchange Building
  • Thursday 26 October, 12:00-2:00pm: University Park Campus, Coates Building
  • Friday 27 October, 12:00-2:00pm: City Hospital – Clinical Sciences Building

Speaking about the Brighten Up campaign, Gavin Scott, Environment Manager at the University, says:

“We see more and more students and staff cycling around our campuses and around Nottingham. It’s vital that cyclists remain safe, especially when the clocks change and the nights get darker. We're pleased to continue to run this annual event and hope that it will help to keep people safer and feeling confident on their bikes.”
