A group of postgraduate students from the University of Nottingham have won a bid to host the Young Life Scientists’ symposium 2017 — an annual scientific conference organised by young life scientists, for young life scientists.

The symposium will take place at the Medical School at the Royal Derby Hospital after the student group —which consists of current UoN students as well as alumni — put forward a successful proposal to host the annual event.

Taking place Saturday 25 November 2017, the free symposium will be called ‘Frontiers in Musculoskeletal Health, Ageing and Disease’ and will be aimed at PhD students and early careers researchers investigating musculoskeletal health.

Supported by the Physiological Society, the British Pharmacological Society and the Biochemical Society, it will feature networking and professional development through scientific talks and poster sessions as well as, careers workshops and a post-symposium dinner.

The symposium will also provide an ideal opportunity for PhD students and early career researchers to showcase their work, attend specialised workshops, and listen to nine spoken communications and up to 50 poster presentations.

The event will also feature the following three keynote speakers:

  • Professor Philip Atherton: University of Nottingham
  • Dr Carolyn Greig: University of Birmingham
  • Dr Iskander Idris: University of Nottingham

Up to 200 delegate places are available.
