Directional changes and road closures in Lenton

Tuesday, 15 September 2020
Restrictions will be put in place to limit some vehicle movements on the roads between Derby Road and Ilkeston Road.

The plans include new 'pop up' cycle lanes, cycle parking facilities, closure of some streets and improvements to pavements to aid social distancing. It is anticipated the scheme will reduce cut through traffic, which will lead to fewer vehicle numbers using these roads, making them more pleasant for residents.

Nottingham City Council have successfully secured the funds to carry out this work from the Government's Emergency Active Travel Fund. By re-allocating road space for cyclists and pedestrians, it is hoped that people will walk and cycle more during the phased COVID-19 recovery for Nottingham.

By preventing vehicles from exiting onto Derby Road, it is hoped that safety will be improved at a number of junctions where visibility is compromised by large trees or street furniture.

A new inbound cycle lane will run along Derby Road from near Cottesmore Road to Arundel Street. Existing parking bays and sections of single yellow line will be removed and replaced with double yellow lines to keep the route clear of parked vehicles.

The restrictions will be in place at all times and all days of the week, initially up to the October half term. These schemes could then either be amended, removed or permanently retained once ideas have been tested out.

Restrictions can be seen on the below map and are in place from Monday 14 September.
