Easing of restrictions and safety on campus

Monday, 17 May 2021
As national restrictions are further relaxed, here’s a reminder of what you can and can't do – both around the city and on our campuses.

Using our campuses

We’re looking forward to welcoming more students back on to campus this week. Our campuses remain covid-secure environments and for that reason we ask that you please observe the safety measures we have in place.

You must wear a face covering and observe one metre+ social distancing while using university buildings. In our libraries, please make sure you follow specific safety measures. This includes wearing a face covering at all times (unless exempt), keeping your distance from others, and not eating. Anyone failing to follow library safety measures will be asked to leave and will not be able to book study space for seven days.

All students and staff using our campuses are expected to take an asymptomatic Covid test at least once a week. Our rewards programme allows you to access snacks, food parcels and prize draws in exchange for taking the test. Find out more about our rewards programme and book your test online.

Life around the city

As of Monday 17 May, there will be fewer restrictions in place in both commercial and private venues.

Pubs, bars and restaurants (including venues on our campuses) may reopen to serve food and drinks indoors. However, you will need to order, eat and drink while seated, and observe the rule of six or two households. Gyms and sports facilities – including UoN Sport – will be able to recommence indoor exercise classes and sports. Other indoor locations such as cinemas and entertainment venues will also be reopening.

Private indoor gatherings will be permitted with up to six people or two households, while outdoor gatherings (including in gardens) are permitted for groups of up to 30. If you are planning to have friends around, please be considerate of those around you. Remember that your neighbours may be studying for exams, or have work in the morning, or young children to look after. Please take advantage of the easing of restrictions in a responsible manner.
