How will Covid-19 rules change from Monday 29 March?

Wednesday, 24 March 2021
Monday 29 March is the start date for the second phase of step one of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown, introducing reduced restrictions around outdoor activities.

It marks the end of the 'stay home' order, meaning people will be free to go outdoors for non-essential reasons.

However, there will still be restrictions in place. International travel will still be prohibited (without a reasonable excuse) along with parties and overnight stays outside your household.

Please ensure you know the rules and how they apply to you to avoid Police or university disciplinary sanctions. You can find out more on our restrictions pages.

Meeting small groups of friends outdoors

From Monday outdoor gatherings of up to six people or two households will be allowed.

Groups can meet anywhere outdoors, including the garden of someone's home.

Those who do not live together must continue to maintain a safe social distance from each other.

Please continue to be respectful to your community and mindful of how your behaviour may be construed to others outside of the university, especially if you have a large household.

Nottinghamshire Police will continue to investigate potential breaches of the rules, and have applied a number of fines to students during the national lockdown in addition to university disciplinary action.

You can play sport outdoors

From Monday 29 March, outdoor sports facilities like tennis courts, basketball courts and cricket pitches can reopen. The university is currently preparing these facilities ready for use.

"People can use these venues in a group of six people, or with members of up to two households," the Cabinet Office says.

Organised sport, like grassroots football, can also resume and a number of university club training sessions and activities will return.

This includes outdoor group exercises classes which can be booked online, the opportunity to try new sports through our Engage programme, and the resumption of Hall Sports. The timetable of virtual and home workouts will also continue.
