Successful applicants will have access to accommodation on our UK campuses, as well as financial support, allowing them to study in a safe, supported environment.

The University of Nottingham Ukrainian Scholars at Risk programme provides a full package of support enabling eligible Ukrainian students displaced by the Russian invasion of their country to continue their studies at UoN.

Our partner university in Ukraine – the Dnipro National University of Railway Transport – is supporting us in identifying at-risk UG and PGT students at their institution who are eligible for the programme. We are also working closely with The Council for At Risk Academics (CARA) to provide a full fellowship and consumables award through this programme to PhD students, where we are able to support and supervise their work.

Post-doctoral researchers and academics at risk can access UK accommodation and support – including visa support – through the British Academy’s Researchers at Risk Fellowships. Members of the university community who may know Ukrainian academics at risk are encouraged to visit the British Academy web pages. If applicants are subsequently matched with UoN through the British Academy scheme, they may be entitled to a consumables award from the UoN Ukrainian Scholars at Risk programme, depending on their circumstances.

Students supported through this programme will get access to the full suite of academic and wellbeing support services at the university – from careers and study support to health services and counselling. We will also help recipients build contacts and support networks with the Ukrainian community in Nottingham.

The package will provide a financial award and other support, which includes:

• course fees for undergraduate and postgraduate taught students
• a full fellowship and consumables award for eligible postgraduate researchers via CARA
• accommodation
• living stipend
• visa and immigration health surcharge costs
• travel to Nottingham
• priority access to UoN wellbeing services

The programme will be administered through two strands:

• postgraduate research students, delivered solely via CARA
• undergraduate and postgraduate taught students, delivered with our partner university in Ukraine, Dnipro National University of Railway Transport (DNURT)

The Scholars at Risk programme is designed to support Ukrainian students. However, it may be used beyond the current crisis to support students at risk of displacement in all conflicts.
