Study together, apart - new bookable group study spaces

Wednesday, 17 March 2021
University of Nottingham Libraries are trialling bookable socially distanced group study spaces in selected locations outside of libraries.

Since November, Libraries have provided individual drop-in study spaces at several locations across our campuses.

Following your feedback, Nottingham Libraries made available 14 bookable group study spaces suitable for groups of 3,4 and 6 in the Trent Building on University Park campus.

Now Libraries have added 10 more spaces on Jubilee Campus - suitable for groups of 6 to 8 people to work together whilst remaining socially distanced. The new spaces are available in the Dearing and Xu Yafen buildings and can be booked online.

Government guidance recommends that students use campus facilities only when essential - for example, when you do not have access to appropriate study space elsewhere.

About the new group study spaces

  • Spaces must be booked online in advance using Click and Study
  • Individuals can book one three-hour group study session per day
  • Group study remains unavailable in library buildings
  • The 'lead booker' will be responsible for ensuring that all group members adhere to the Covid-19 safety measures and terms of use
  • Face coverings must be worn (unless exempt) and all students must maintain a minimum of one metre distance from others - this applies even if you are in the same household or bubble
  • No food is allowed; drinks can be consumed but please replace your face covering immediately
  • Spaces are monitored by security staff

In the case of non-compliance with the Covid-19 safety measures, all group members will be asked to leave, and the lead booker will be unable to book study space for seven days. This is to allow us to continue providing this service and to ensure we provide a safe environment for everyone.

Failure to follow the safety measures is a breach of the Code of Discipline for Students.

New drop-in individual spaces with PCs

In addition to the new bookable group spaces, Libraries have also added five computer rooms to the drop-in Study Here spaces. These rooms in the Trent Building have been set up to provide individual, socially distanced study space suitable for students who need to access a PC for their studies.

Unlike bookable study space in library buildings, these spaces will be available on a walk-in basis during building opening times. Available spaces outside of libraries can be identified by the ‘Study here’ signs and posters.

You will be expected to follow the University’s Covid-19 safety measures and the spaces will be monitored throughout the day.

If you have any questions about our study spaces, contact Libraries via email, phone or live chat.
