UoN wins two awards at the British University and Colleges Sport (BUCS) awards

University of Nottingham athletes, volunteers and staff have been recognised for their outstanding achievements this academic year by the national governing body for university sport.

The university took home two awards at the 2022 BUCS awards hosted on Wednesday 8 July at Warwick University.

The awards, which recognise excellence across the higher education sport sector, celebrated the achievements of student athletes and teams as well as volunteers and administrators who have gone above and beyond to progress the sports provision of their institution.

The University of Nottingham winners included Emily Bridges (Dan Porter Memorial Award) and the Headliner Series (Digital Engagement Award).

Winner of the Dan Porter award, Emily Bridges was recognised for her contribution to trans sport – an elite cyclist, Emily has navigated a tough season of press interest following her journey to compete in the female category demonstrating great strength and resilience for such a young athlete.

The department also took home the Digital Engagement award for the hugely popular Headliner Series. Sponsored by RedBull, the Headliner series delivered a professional match day experience for selected BUCS fixtures. Will set out crowds in the venue, the campaign totalled more than 200,000 impressions online and used its platform to profile department campaigns such as Men’s Health Active.

University of Nottingham alumni, David Florence, was also recognised at the awards, being inducted into the BUCS 2022 Hall of Fame for his remarkable career in Canoe-Slalom. Since graduating from the University of Nottingham, David has gone on to to win 3 Olympic silver medals, 3 World Championship golds and 11 World Championship medals.
