Why Nottingham?

Our courses are modular so you can tailor your studies to suit your interests. We offer a vibrant learning environment where research active staff and practitioners explore design through a process of 'creative rigour'.

We believe in giving students opportunities to learn through doing. You will spend time in workshops and design studios working on a variety of projects from film making to the unique live projects in Africa

At Nottingham we have strong links with local and national practices. This means you will be able to build contacts from year one. We have many leading names in UK architecture acting as visiting professors, part time teachers or evening lecturers.

Strong studio culture

We encourage a strong studio culture and have recently moved to a vertical teaching structure where year two BArch students and years two and three MEng students are taught alongside BArch year three and MEng year four students. This structure provides a supportive learning environment and encourages peer mentoring between groups of students. It has also been shown to improve student achievements.

Free study trips abroad

Field study trips abroad are seen as an essential component of architectural education. All our year first year BArch and MEng students spend time on a week-long trip to Europe paid for by the department. Short two and three day international study trips are also available to third and fourth year students as part of their major studio project.

Free materials

Our new workshop facilities provide free model making materials and access to a range of modern fabrication equipment.
