Biography

Richard Hague is Professor of Additive Manufacturing and Director of the Centre for Additive Manufacturing (CfAM) at the University of Nottingham. Having worked in the AM field for over 27 years, he is internationally recognized both for scientific endeavour and creating impact though industrial exploitation where he has a background of leading and managing large multi-disciplinary, multi- partner research projects from both EPSRC and industry. Richard's research interests are focused on AM specific processes, materials and computational methods across for wide spectrum of industrial sectors with current research programmes focused on next generation multifunctional additive manufacturing. Richard has received multiple international awards and honours and is a co-founder and Director of Added Scientific Ltd, a spin out from the University of Nottingham focused on implementing Additive Manufacturing technical solutions to industry.

Research Summary

Director, EPSRC Centre for Additive Manufacturing.

Current basic research interests are focused on multifunctional Additive Manufacturing - the deposition of dissimilar materials for the production of functionalised devices - where I have broad interests covering design, processes and materials, with the majority of the process led activity being focused on ink-jetting.

With Additive Manufacturing now an established manufacturing techniques, my research interests are particularly focused on the additive processing of functional materials - particularly for 3D printed electronics and healthcare devices. Recent work on the printing of magnetic materials (both hard and soft) is showing great promise, especially when coupled with design optimisation techniques such as topology optimisation and lattices.

I also have a strong interest in applied research where our previous research efforts are being taken up industrially across a broad range of sectors (auto / aero, consumer, medical, etc) - this is largely being achieved through our purpose spin-out company, Added Scientific Ltd.
