3 Minute thesis
The 3MT concept was developed by the University of Queensland, Australia and has spread to universities around the world.

The challenge is for researchers to explain the complexity and relevance of their research to a non-specialist audience in a concise and engaging way.

Presenters have a maximum of three minutes to pitch their research and can only use one slide.

Taking part in this competition will help you;

  • improve your public speaking skills
  • build your confidence
  • share your passion for research

Entries are invited from 2nd and 3rd year PhD students who who will still be registered with the University in October 2015 and are interested in publicising their work to a wider audience. There is a prize of £100 to the winner of the Nottingham UK competition and two runners up prizes of £50.

The winner of the Nottingham UK competition will be entered into the online UK 3MT semi-final on the 13 July 2015. Six finalists from this competition will then take part in the UK-wide final on the 8 September 2015.  The winner of the UK final will receive a travel bursary of £3,000.

The Nottingham UK winner will also be entered into the Universitas 21 Grand Final 3MT competition in October 2015 (U21 3MT). The U21 3MT competition is judged online and the winner will receive a significant travel bursary of $2,500.
