Excellence and Innovation in
Teaching and Learning

The School of English places the student experience at the centre of our approach to teaching and learning, and encourages excellence and innovation.

Several members of staff have received University of Nottingham Dearing awards for teaching excellence, and in recent years we have been at the forefront of developments in:

  • e-learning resources
  • enhancing feedback through the use of video and audio technology
  • work-related learning - offering opportunities in project-based dissertations to develop students’ employability skills.

The School attaches particular importance to feedback: the opportunity to discuss ideas directly with tutors through one-to-one and small group consultations is an integral part of studying at Nottingham and can be one of the most rewarding aspects of learning.

Active student learning community fora ensure that students are involved directly in developing our teaching successes and in sharing best practice across the School.
