Biography

I am currently enrolled in a 4 years EngD program funded by the EPSRC Centre for doctoral training which forms part of the Resilient Decarbonised Fuel Energy Systems aiming to decarbonize the UK by 2050.

From my bachelor to my masters, I studied engineering with a special focus on renewable energies.

I have 2 years working experience in industries such as hotel Eclosia group and Coca Cola company in Mauritius and a tech company called Ascend technology in China . I worked as a maintenance coordinator , process engineer and a quality assurance technician respectively in the mentioned places.

Expertise Summary

My work is mainly focused on energy optimisation in industries and energy usage in industries.

Teaching Summary

Taught primary kids as an ESL teacher in China

Current Research

This Resilient Decarbonised Fuel Energy Systems PhD project will investigate the use of sensor measurements and machine learning to predict and optimise either the energy production or energy utilisation for a range of industrial relevant case studies. The PhD project will be sponsored by the industrial partner Intelligent Plant, who focus on the analysis and visualisation of industrial data. Although the project will focus on different case studies. The aim is to determine suitable data collection and analysis strategies that can be applied to a variety of different industrial systems. The first and second case studies will focus on energy production systems and the third and fourth on the energy efficiency of industrial processes. An objective of this project is to develop appropriate data analysis and visualisation methods, which contribute to the UK's, net zero ambition.

Past Research

Bachelor research

As part of my bachelor thesis ,the aim of this Project was to analyse the implemented energy efficient lighting systems in a new existing building in Mauritius, in an attempt to suggest ways of improving the current situation after conducting an analysis and to lower carbon footprint of the building.

Project's Description:

The objectives of this project include the analysis of the lighting system in a building, propose adequate improvements to the latter and calculate the potential savings of the different measures, the payback period and the potential environmental benefit

Responsibilities:

  • To review measures implemented to increase efficiency of current lighting systems
  • To assess the improvement that may be attributed to the new technologies
  • To analyse the financial aspect of current energy efficient measures
  • To compare illuminance levels using luxmeter through experimental measurements and simulation software DIALux to analyse the patterns incident.
  • To understand occupants‟ behavior with regard to implemented measures and to assess comfort through statistical analysis
  • Implementation and feasibility calculation of energy saving techniques

Master research

As part of my masters thesis , this Project unlike the traditional large seawater desalination system consist of a manual automatic dual mode solar desalination system is proposed which innovatively make use of Venturi jet and water pump.

Project's Description:

The invention is to provide a compact apparatus and method for desalination, which is characterized by the use of solar energy, corrosion-resistant apparatus, low evaporation temperature ,automatic and manual modes, and high reliability. The venturi effect is used to create a negative pressure environment in the evaporator to evaporate water below 100 degrees. By varying flow rate, we can vary the negative pressure and thus change the boiling temperature of the water.

Responsibilities:

  • Design the whole system
  • Mounting the experimental setup
  • Performing the experiment to produce freshwater
  • Simulation of the model
  • Analyse between simulation and experimental model
  • Results and Discussions

Future Research

Case Study 1: Wind turbines

This case study will use data from offshore wind turbines provided by the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult. Predictive models will be developed to determine the energy produced for a variety of turbine conditions in addition to determining the optimal conditions to maximise energy production.

Case Study 2

Alarms, minimising false positive identification and replacement to reduce them which will contribute to more uptime / reduce downtime.

Case Study 3: Industry baking

This case study will use data (e.g. temperature, residence time) from industrial bakeries and develop models to determine the optimal parameters of different unit operations (e.g. baking and cooling) to minimise the energy utilised whilst ensuring the product remain within specification.

Case Study 4: Brewing

This case study will use data collected from local breweries to monitor the energy usage through key unit operations (e.g. fermentation and wort boiling and cleaning) and develop models to monitor processes and reduce energy utilisation
