Data sharing and archiving

Data is the foundation of extensive and expensive research. Often, inadequate attention is given to the recording, labelling and storage that is necessary for validation and future re-use.

For this reason, many funders require researchers to deposit all research data, resulting from their grants, into designated data centres. This will ensure that appropriate metadata is assigned and will preserve the data into the future - e.g UK Data Archive (for the Social Sciences and Humanities) and the NERC data centres.
