Senate Disciplinary Committee

Constitution

The Senate will appoint members to the Senate Disciplinary Committee to deal with allegations of disciplinary misconduct referred to it by the University Assessor.

Hearing of Cases

A Senate Disciplinary Committee shall be drawn together from the following pool of potential attendees::

  1. A senior member of the University appointed by the Senate for a three-year period as Chair of the Senate Disciplinary Committee, giving consideration to diversity. The term may be renewed or extended with Senate approval.
  2. A senior member of the University appointed by the Senate for a three-year period as Deputy Chair of the Senate Disciplinary Committee, giving consideration to diversity.
  3. Faculty staff drawn from a pool of a minimum of five staff members nominated by each of the Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellors and appointed by the Senate, paying attention to the need to ensure diversity in the pool.
  4. Five UNUK academic members of the Senate, appointed by the Senate paying attention to the need to ensure diversity in the pool.
  5. A student member drawn from a pool of student delegates nominated by the Students' Union paying attention to the need to ensure diversity in the pool.

In the case of matters brought under paragraph 8.4(8) of the Code of Discipline for Students one of the members of the panel should if possible be a trained dignity adviser. All members in the pool shall receive proper briefing prior to participation in a committee.

The quorum in all cases will be three with due consideration given to ensuring diversity of membership and a decision to uphold a case against a student may be made by a majority of the Committee.

The Registrar will appoint a member of their staff to act as Secretary to the Committee.
