School of Health Sciences

Our research

At the School of Health Sciences, we have six key research groups or strategic research areas. Each provides a focus for research excellence in a specific field, drawing together researchers from across our school and forging collaborations with partners all over the world.

Our researchers undertake world-leading and internationally excellent applied health and social care research. We are ranked joint 4th in the UK for research quality, 100% of our research environment is world-leading according to the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF2021).

Our research informs and impacts health and social care locally, nationally and globally through our key research groups. Together we undertake interdisciplinary multi-method research bringing together expertise in nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, sports rehabilitation together with psychology, public health and the social sciences. The research we undertake is informed by the public and patients it impacts. Many of our funded projects address inequalities across the health and social care sector. We bring a team approach to identify and explain health and social care challenges and to develop interventions to improve outcomes.
