Building a long term relationship with India to attract investment, collaborations and promote trade.

Guest speaker: Professor Arun Grover, Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, India.

Following a recent delegation from Nottingham to Chandigarh lead by David Bishop, Corporate Director of Development at Nottingham City Council, Professor Grover has been invited by The University of Nottingham’s Haydn Green Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to deliver a special seminar at the University. Professor Grover will speak about strengthening further the ties between Nottingham and Chandigarh.

Growing out of the mutual interest between the two universities and Nottingham City Council to build a long term relationship to attract investment, collaborations and promote trade, this seminar will explore how academic institutions from the UK and India can collaborate in research and development to provide new opportunities for trade and investment in both countries.

Professor Arun Grover has been Vice Chancellor of Panjab University since July 2012. As Professor of Physics with over 35 years of teaching, research and administrative experience he has been co-writer of over 160 publications and has had over 60 papers published in conferences. Prof Grover has been a member and coordinator of 25 professional bodies and has won many awards and recognitions for his scientific contributions.

Professor Grover will be accompanied by a high-powered delegation from the Chandigarh Institutions with a view to continuing the discussions initiated during Nottingham City Council's visit to Chandigarh:

  • Dr Manoj Arora - Director, Punjab Engineering College
  • Prof Anil Monga - Dean Alumni Relations, Panjab University
  • Prof Anand Bachhawat - Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali
  • Sandeep Hans - Director Public Instructions, Chandigarh Administration
The panel of delegates will take questions from the audience at the end of the seminar. 

About Panjab University

Panjab University has 75 teaching and research departments and 15 centres/chairs for teaching and research at the main campus located at Chandigarh. The Chandigarh campus is spread over almost 550 acres and the university has 192 affiliated colleges and regional centres across Punjab and Chandigarh.

Under Professor Grover’s leadership, the university is ranked number one in India and 13th in the Times Higher Education BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2014.

The university has been participating in national and international collaborative research and international student exchange programmes with many countries.

In addition, the university has been involved in many important educational developments in India and Professor Grover has recently been appointed Chair of a cluster of institutions tasked with promoting and sustaining excellence in research. This group has been named the Chandigarh Region Innovation and Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC).

The format for the event is as follows:
