Veterinary allowances

Additional veterinary allowance

The Additional Veterinary Allowance (AVA) is paid to Clinical Veterinary staff in recognition of comparable salaries in the broader veterinary sector.

The AVA ranges between 5% and 15% of basic salary - see the current salary scale.

Clinical supplement

Clinical Veterinary staff can receive a clinical supplement in proportion to the time spent in clinical practice. Staff must undertake a full clinical practice workload, approximately 80% of full-time, to qualify for the full supplement.

The maximum supplement payable varies between 15% and 20% of salary including AVA - see the current salary scale

Staff in receipt of a clinical supplement become exempt from the ability to undertake 50 days per year external clinical practice.
