The United Nations Special Procedures System: An Expert Workshop

Next week, Professor Thérèse Murphy  and Professor Aoife Nolan, Joint Heads of the ESR Unit, together with Dr Rosa Freedman, will be running an expert workshop on the UN Special Procedures System.

Special Procedures are part of the work of the UN Human Rights Council; they are independent human rights experts with either a thematic or country specific mandate to report and advise on human rights.

The Workshop will consider the development and structure of the Special Procedures system and an array of topical issues - from engagement with states to the relationship between the system and other parts of the UN human rights machinery.

The event will bring together current and former mandate holders, scholars and a variety of other professionals with experience in relation to Special Procedures work. Participants will include Shaheen Ali, Mashood Baderin, Catarina de Albuquerque, Olivier de Frouville, Olivier De Schutter, Malcolm Evans, Najat M’jid, Ahmed Shaheed and Surya Subedi.
