26th Annual Advanced Laws of War course held at HRLC

From 15 – 26 June 2015, HRLC hosted the 26th Annual Advanced Course on the Laws of War. The course is only open to legal advisers to the armed services. The participants, drawn from the UK and Canada, came with a wide range of practical experience in international humanitarian law and practice. Among the specialist areas covered were Combatants and POW Status, Occupation Law and Practice, Human Rights and Armed Conflict, The legal limits of interrogation, Non-international Armed Conflicts - DPH and detention/internment in NIAC Sexual violence in armed conflict, Unmanned/Autonomous Military Technologies and Cyberwar, and Targeted Killings. The Advanced Course was led by HRLC Co-Director Professor McGoldrick. The range of international experts included Professors Olympia Bekou and Sandesh Sivakumaran, (University of Nottingham), Dr Marko Milanovic (University of Nottingham) along with Professor Robert Cryer (University of Birmingham) and Dr Christine Byron (Cardiff University).
