The 2020 Outstanding Book Award of the Division of International Criminology of the American Society of Criminology has been made to Catherine Appleton and Dirk van Zyl Smit and for their book, Life Imprisonment: a Global Human Rights Analysis (Harvard 2019).
The Award was announced officially on 20 November 2020 as part a webinar of the Division of International Criminology, which took place during what would have been the Annual Conference of the American Society of Criminology in Washington DC. The book was highly praised by the award jury, who commented that it was a “stand-out contribution to the field”.
