Alison Milbank debates goodness

Professor Alison Milbank features in a new debate published by the Institute of Art and Ideas (IAI) who are also behind the HowTheLightGetsIn festival.

Alison took part in a debate called ‘The precarious case for being good’, examining secular morality and whether we can rely on the goodness of humanity.

Alison argued that “Without God, there is no real, logical reason to be a truly moral person.” Also debating were Turkish journalist and author Ece Temelkuran, who argued “It is a political necessity to create a universal, secular morality”, and Anglo-Scandinavian philosopher Peter Sjöstedt-H, who argued “There is no absolute morality, ultimate duty or purpose, it is subjective.”
