East West Street A Song of Good and Evil

A special event organised by the School of Law, together with the International Law Association.

On 14 March 2017 we will be hosting a discussion of Professor Philippe Sands' QC (UCL) critically acclaimed and award winning book East West Street: On the Origins of Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity.

Professor Sands is a leading scholar and practitioner of international law; in November 2016 the book was awarded the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction. The book will be discussed by Professor Sands and Professor David Fraser (School of Law). This will be followed by the premiere screening of A Song of Good and Evil, a performance of readings, images, films and music based upon the book performed in Courtroom 600 of the Nuremberg Courthouse, the venue for the Nuremberg Trial of Nazi leaders after the Second World War and Holocaust. The cast of the film include Laurent Naouri - bass baritone; Guillaume de Chassy – piano; Katja Riemann and Philippe Sands – narrators.

The event will consist of the lecture, discussion and Q&A, then an intermission, followed by the screening of the film. Admission is free, however registration is required.

Places are limited, so please book early; tickets can be picked up before the event at the Djanogly Theatre box office, Lakeside Arts Pavilion.
