Ciardi Prize 2015 awarded to visiting PhD student Corinna Seiberth

Corinna Seiberth, a past visiting PhD student from the University of Lucerne, Switzerland, has been awarded the Ciardi Prize 2015! Corinna spent 18 months at the School of Law and during that time was supervised by Professor Nigel White.

The Professor Giuseppe Ciardi Foundation awarded Corinna its 2015 scientific prize on Friday 17 April, for her book entitled 'Private Military and Security Companies in International Law'.

The Ciardi Prize is awarded to a substantial and original study dealing with military law, law of war or any matter connected with or related to the aforementioned. The award ceremony took place in Quebec City at the 19th Annual Congress of the International Society for Military Law and the Law of war.

From the Jury report:

“The author’s comprehensive approach to the sensitive issue of PMC/PSC deserves the greatest appreciation for the depth and clarity of the analysis. Dr. Seiberth, in identifying the lack of a proper legal framework, does not limit her research to soft law instruments, such as the Montreux Document, but offers effective and innovative solutions in order to enhance the protection of civilians from violations of international humanitarian law”.

Congratulations Corinna!
