We are pleased to announce that on 30 September 2016, Dr Elina Steinerte has been elected by the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) to serve as member of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention. The working group was established by the former Commission on Human Rights in 1991, and carries out fact-finding missions and can receive communications from individuals. Dr Steinerte is a graduate of the 2001-2002 LLM Human Rights Law.

Furthermore, Ms Melanie Hopkins has taken up her new position as British High Commissioner to the Republic of Fiji to which she was appointed in June. She recently paid a courtesy call to two other Nottingham graduates at the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Pacific meeting the Regional Representative; Ms Chitra Massey, and Deputy Regional Representative, Ms Catherine Phuong.

We wish them all the best in their new appointments.
