Michelin Starred chef one of eight industry leaders to be honoured with law degree

Talented University of Nottingham students receiving their degree certificates at this year's summer graduation ceremony will be rubbing shoulders with a Michelin Starred chef.

Eight honorary graduands, all recognised leaders in their respective fields, will receive honorary law degrees in a series of ceremonies from Wednesday 12 to Friday 21 July.

The University's newly opened David Ross Sports Village will be transformed into the graduation venue to welcome the students and their families, along with a total of 12 honorary graduands who will be formally celebrated for making an exceptional contribution in their chosen professions.

The degree of Doctor of Laws will be awarded to:

  • Sat Bains: Chef/Patron, Restaurant Sat Bains with Rooms in Nottingham, who has garnered two Michelin stars, the ultimate five Rosettes from the AA, 9 out of 10 in the Good Food Guide and three honorary university degrees
  • Lord Victor Adebowale CBE: Chief Executive, Turning Point, who has been a lifelong champion of those affected by poverty, mental health issues, drugs, alcohol, learning disabilities and complex needs, receiving a CBE in 2000 for services to the unemployed and youth homelessness
  • Dr Sue Archbold: Chief Executive, Ear Foundation, and alumna of MPhil Education (1989)
  • Cynthia Barlow OBE: Chair, RoadPeace, and alumna of Social Administration (1965)
  • Dr Cecilia Anim: President, Royal College of Nursing
  • Andy Halford: Group Finance Director and Group Executive Director, Standard Chartered Bank, and alumnus of industrial economics (1980)
  • Dr Peter Homa: Chief Executive, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
  • Daniel Hallgarten: Partner, HGT Management LLP, and Trustee and Founder of the Anamax Charitable Foundation
