The University of Nottingham holds a wide variety of material on these themes. Printed book collections include the Briggs and Charles Knight collections, which both contain educational literature targeted at children. The Porter collection is a fine group of ornithological books, many of which are lavishly illustrated. The Mellish Meteorological Collection contains both printed and manuscript material.

Other manuscript collections include the records of the British Radiofrequency Spectroscopy Group, papers of the Cotton Research Corporation, letters of Joseph Pentland (1797-1873), explorer, to Reverend William Buckland (1784-1856), geologist, and the records of the East Midlands district of the Workers' Educational Association (WEA).
