Welcome to the Nottingham Institute of Russian and East European Studies (NIREES)

NIREES includes researchers in the arts and humanities and the social sciences who study Russia, the former Soviet Union and east and central Europe. Its core purpose is to:

  • promote original research, including multi- and inter-disciplinary work, which will raise the research profile of the University
  • contribute to forming and maintaining a lively and productive research environment
  • help shape the perspectives and policies of decision-makers and practitioners involved in the region.

The current chair of the Institute is Dr Adam Swain (Geography).
