Awards for science masters or PhD students planning to follow a career in STEM

The application deadline has now passed

The university is once again fortunate to be invited to submit applications for scholarships from the Grundy Educational Trust. 

Annual awards are made of between £1,200 and £4,800 to successful candidates for postgraduate taught or research programmes.

Eligibility

The university may put forward up to five applications, towards the funding of postgraduate degrees in a STEM discipline, and the Trust has the following requirements:

They are looking for students

  1. With strong academic potential with an intention to study a STEM subject
  2. With a demonstrable financial need and
  3. Who are pursuing courses relevant to the objectives of the Trust. Applicants must ensure that they provide precise and accurate financial information on the application form, both in terms of income and expenditure, and they are advised not to end up with a “requirement” around the £4,800 mark which is the Trust’s indicative maximum. Where an applicant requires an amount which significantly exceeds the level at which the Trust can provide support, the Trust will seek an explanation in interview of how the applicant intends to meet any shortfall should be successful in receiving an award.

How to apply

You must complete Grundy Educational Trust's application form (you will also need to sign up in order to be able to complete the application form) with precise and accurate financial information and are advised not to end up with a "requirement" around the £4,800 mark which is the indicative maximum.

You should either attach references if available or provide contact details for two referees. References should be provided from a past Tutor to record your suitability or from a prospective tutor if they have interviewed or have actual knowledge of your suitability. You should be able to respond satisfactorily to verbal enquiries from the Trust's panel. 

The deadline for submission of completed application forms is by Tuesday 23 April 2024 and the link is operated by the Trust.  Shortlisting will take place by the university panel. If you have not been contacted by the week ending 17 May 2024 your application has not been successful.

It is proposed that the Trustees will interview selected candidates via Zoom on Friday 28 June 2024, and the Trust will notify the university of any candidates selected for interview by Monday 10 May 2024. Applicants should have a copy of their completed application to hand for the interview.
